The 7 Days Lemosho Route is a rewarding, scenic Kilimanjaro trek that crosses rainforest, moorland and alpine desert before a midnight summit push to Uhuru Peak. It’s a faster variant of the 8-day Lemosho but still offers excellent scenery and good acclimatization opportunities  suitable for fit trekkers who prefer a compact schedule

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1 — Arrival & Transfer to Lemosho Gate → Mti Mkubwa / Big Tree Camp (≈2,700–2,800 m)

Transfer from Moshi/Arusha to the Londorossi/Lemosho gate for registration, then a forest walk to the Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) campsite. The trail traverses lush montane rainforest  keep an eye out for colobus monkeys and birds. Overnight in tents; kit check and guide briefing.

Day 2 — Big Tree Camp → Shira 1 / Shira Plateau (≈3,500–3,600 m)

You exit the forest and climb onto the Shira Plateau, moving into moorland and wide volcanic vistas. This day’s hike is longer but gradual, giving good altitude gain for acclimatization with excellent views of Kibo. Overnight at Shira 1 / Shira 2 depending on itinerary flow.

Day 3 — Shira Plateau → Moir Hut → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp (≈3,950–4,000 m)

A classic acclimatization day: continue across the high plateau, make optional acclimatization walks around Lent Hills or Moir Hut, then ascend to Lava Tower for lunch (≈4,600 m high point) before descending to Barranco Camp. The “climb high, sleep low” pattern on this day helps adaptation to altitude.

Day 4 — Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp (≈4,000–4,100 m)

After tackling the famous Barranco Wall  steep-looking but non-technical  the trail winds across ridges into the Karanga valley and Karanga Camp. Shorter hiking day to preserve energy for the summit push.

Day 5 — Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp (≈4,640 m)

A steady ascent to Barafu Camp, the final base for the summit push. Afternoon rest, early dinner and preparations for the midnight start. Final gear checks and hydration are essential.

Day 6 — Barafu → Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) → Mweka Camp (≈3,100 m)

Start around midnight for the steep pre-dawn climb to Stella Point and onward to Uhuru Peak (Africa’s highest point). Enjoy summit sunrise, then descend via Barafu to Mweka Camp for the night — a long day but the highlight of the trek.

Day 7 — Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Moshi / Arusha

Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate for certificates and a vehicle transfer back to Moshi/Arusha. Hot shower, celebration and departure or optional extra hotel night.
